Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for Fourth Hall of Fame Class

Philadelphia, PA -- The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame has begun the nomination process for its fourth class of Inductees with local fans playing a major role. Philadelphia sports fans can nominate their favorites to be considered for induction into the Philly Sports Hall.

From now through February 16, 2007, the public can submit nominees for consideration as inductees into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. The nominations can be submitted online, via email or on paper through US mail. As part of its nomination process, the Hall of Fame relies heavily on input from fans, with the top nominees submitted by the public included on the election ballot.

"Fans are an integral part of what makes the Philadelphia sports scene the best in the nation, and we strongly encourage them to again participate in our nomination process," states the Hall's Vice President of Foundation Development Steve Tallant. "Each year the public plays a major role in the process and early results indicate a great response for Inductee Class IV from area fans."

Public nominations are encouraged to be submitted electronically through the Hall of Fame's web site at (http://www.phillyhof.org/nominee.asp) or via email (nominees @ phillyhall.net). Regular mail can also be used (Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, 410 Waverly Road Wyncote, PA 19095). All nominations must include the nominee's accomplishments and/or contributions along with the submitter's contact information. Nominees must meet the Hall of Fame's inductee qualifications. A list of eligibility requirements is available online at: http://www.phillyhof.org/eligibility.asp

The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame is open to athletes, coaches, media, administrators and other contributors in all areas of professional, college, amateur, high school and youth sports. Candidates must have been born in or performed in the Philadelphia area and meet certain eligibility requirements in order to be considered.

Hall of Fame nominees are divided into categories based on the era in which they performed: those with the majority of their career within the past 50 years and those prior. The top five publicly submitted nominees who meet the Hall's criteria are automatically included in the final ballot supplied to the Hall of Fame's elective body.

The Hall of Fame's Class IV Induction Ceremony is in November 2007.
