Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Holding Fifth Induction Ceremony
PHILADELPHIA— The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame holds its 5th annual Induction Ceremony on Thursday November 13, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Penns Landing. This year’s event will honor the members of Inductee Class V. The new class, including one team and 12 individuals, joins the 81 current members of the Philly Hall.
This year’s class includes Leroy Burrell, Harold Carmichael, Maurice Cheeks, Ed Delahanty, Stan Hochman, Tommy Loughran, Herb Magee, Dorothy Porter, Fred Shero, Lionel Simmons, Mickey Vernon, Al Wistert along with the 1929 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics.
“The Induction Ceremony has really turned into an annual reunion to honor the new Inductees,” said Steve Tallant Vice-President of Foundation Development for the Hall of Fame. “Each year past inductees and other sports legends join the new class and we’re thrilled to be able to share it with the Philly sports fans.”
Joining the class are past Inductees and others including Bill Campbell, Bill Ellerbee, Bob Levy, Chuck Bednarik, Harry Kalas, Harvey Pollack, Jack Whitaker, John Chaney, Ray Didinger, Tom Brookshier and Pete Retzlaff.
The ceremony features Dan Baker, stadium announcer for the Eagles and National League Champion Phillies as Master of Ceremonies.
Festivities include a cocktail reception, dinner and the Induction banquet. Attendees may also participate in the silent auction and view the museum exhibit featuring items from the Hall of Fame’s unique collection of Philadelphia sports artifacts.

The cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the Induction Ceremony.
