Philly Sports Hall of Fame? Not here.
Author: Jack McCaffrey
If the “Philly Live!” complex proposed for the site of the Spectrum is to include space for the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, it is news to Ken Avallon. And he is the Hall of Fame’s president.
“To be honest, it’s the first we have heard of it,” Avallon said. “We have been in touch with Comcast and (its president) Peter Luukko in the past about leasing space in the Wachovia Center. But to be honest, we have spoken to the Phillies too, about Citizens Bank Park, and to the Eagles about the Linc. So, no, there is nothing to that.”
Though Avallon expects the lines of communication to stay hot, the Philly Hall of Fame has other plans. In the spring, it will open its facility near Fifth and Poplar in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia to the public. That is believed to be a temporary solution, with the ultimate plan still to be closer to – or a part of - the South Philadelphia sports complex.
“We’re open to ideas,” Avallon said. “We have talked before, but nothing is happening. But a lot has been left on the table. For now, though, there is nothing to it.”
